Malcolm was the neighbour everyone should have. He was kind and helpful with everything from car problems and blocked drains to dog walking. My dog and Malcolm considered themselves best mates. Malcolm was great company. He was a great raconteur and his stories of driving his TR, Christmas Island and mislaid 'sources' would keep the company up till the wee small hours.

Malcolm was such a kind neighbour. As a young lad growing up, there was always something interesting going on next door. My earliest memory of Malcolm was not long after we moved in to Berry’s Road and Malcolm took me to the patch with his then dog, Lucy. Another occasion, which shows Malcolm’s kindness, was when he helped me repair my car after I had an argument on the road with a deer! He showed me how to bang out the panels and helped me get my 205 back on the road. I will remember Malcolm with these and many other fond memories.

Malcolm's old school friends from Prince Rupert School, Wilhelmshaven remember him as a happy, smiley lad with a wonderful head of ginger hair. Of recent years, Malcolm and Joan were always very welcome participants at the 47ers reunion lunches where the group shared memories of their time at the school in the early days after the war. Malcolm will be missed at these events. Barbara Steels
